Geofencing in logistics, employee presentation, narrowband IoT and webinars from TIS
Bocholt, June 2, 2020
To some people the word "Geofence" sounds like the name of an earth age. But these virtual geographic limitations have nothing to do with it. With their help, many useful functions can be controlled in order to streamline and simplify your logistics processes. We will report on how this works today.
You will also find news about the TIS team: Our colleague Erik Sieverding studied at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences in Bocholt and first wrote his bachelor thesis in our house. He now works full-time as a software developer at TIS.
In our telematics blog, an interesting article informs about the telecom expansion of narrowband technology.
And you can find our current June webinar dates in this issue.
The next webinars will take place on June 8 already. Register today!
Enjoy reading. Stay healthy!

Abundant possibilities with Geofencing in your logistics
The term geofencing* refers to a technology that uses GPS coordinates to draw a virtual border in space and to trigger certain actions based on this border.
TIS integrated geofencing in the TISLOG logistics software in 2015 and continuously expanded it further.
Today we will show you a few examples of how you can automate and optimize logistics processes with geofencing.
Erik Sieverding - our new TISSI in the software development team
Erik Sieverding has been part of the server team in software development since May 1, 2020. But he has been with TIS even longer and already completed his bachelor's thesis as a student with us, which involved the introduction of test automation. He still continues to work on this topic with us.
He studied IT software systems at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences in Bocholt. Before that, he first studied law in Munster for four semesters, but then chances his focus to computer science. Exactly the right decision, as he says!
It was our luck that TIS is a close partner of the Bocholt University - because Erik asked us if we had a promising topic for a bachelor's thesis for him. We had!
He particularly likes the flat hierarchies, the family flair and the open communication between TISSIS. “For me as a software developer, it is also great to be able to work with many modern technologies. Even in times of the pandemic, TIS shows what it's made of: thanks to quick decisions, flexible home offices and online tools, work could continue almost seamlessly.”
In his spare time, he is a passionate “Magic: The Gathering” player. Before Corona, he met his playmates every week in "Reallife", now everyone meets via video conference and they just keep playing. His interests are diverse: fantasy novels, video and board games, but also concert visits enrich his free time. And when the weather is nice, he likes to travel the 18 km to work on his bicycle!
„For me as a software developer, it is [ ... ] great to be able to work with many modern technologies. Even in times of the pandemic, TIS shows what it's made of: thanks to quick decisions, flexible home offices and online tools, work could continue almost seamlessly.“
Dear Erik, it's great to have you on the team! Welcome now also "full time"!
Narrowband IoT available across borders
Deutsche Telekom has announced roaming agreements for narrowband IoT with Swisscom, Teli Company and Vodafone.
Low consumption and low costs are among the advantages of radio technology. Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) can therefore be used for tracking containers or even a single package as long as the amount of data to be sent remains small.
The problem so far, however, has been that telecommunications providers could only offer NB-IoT in their own markets. So far, there have been few cooperations for roaming in this low-frequency range of 180 kilohertz. Now Deutsche Telekom has announced that it has signed contracts with Swisscom, Delia Company and Vodafone.
