Tour Optimization in TISLOG, Case Study and Misconceptions FMS 5

Greater efficiency, greater transparency, and greater sustainability. These are all important issues currently facing the transportation and logistics industry.

In this newsletter, we’ll discuss how we’re doing our part to address them.

With route optimization in TISLOG, your telematics data is made available for route planning. We’ll tell you about the benefits.

In November, we’re hosting a Webinar Day on the topic “Cost Savings with TIS Software Solutions.” There, we’ll show you which TISLOG software products can help you reduce your costs.

Maier Spedition in Singen uses our TISLOG Smart Asset Check for its repair management. Learn about the benefits that digitizing this process has brought to the company.

There are some misconceptions regarding FMS 5.0. We’d like to address these in this newsletter.

Tour Optimization in TISLOG

Many transportation companies use both a telematics system and route optimization. However, in most cases, the two systems operate independently of one another. Yet the telematics system can provide important data to improve routes. This includes:

  • Real-time data such as stop times at customers and actual driving times
  • Speed profiles and driving styles of the drivers
  • Actual data on route execution: Were there any problems that could also occur in the future?
  • Rest and driving times of drivers

Together with PTV Logistis, we offer a solution in which telematics and route optimization work together to achieve the best possible results.

Webinar Day: Cost Savings Through TIS Software Solutions

Our next Webinar Day, titled “Cost Savings with TIS Software Solutions,” will take place on November 13. Over the course of 1.5 hours, we’ll show you how some of our TISLOG products can help you reduce your costs in the long run.

We’ll cover the following topics:

  • TISLOG Tacho Archive
  • TISLOG Driving Style Analysis
  • TISLOG Loading Equipment Management
  • E-CMR in TISLOG
  • Tour Optimization in TISLOG

TISLOG Smart Asset Check at Maier Spedition

Maier Spedition, based in Singen, wanted to streamline and digitize its repair management process.
Although the request for a mobile repair management system was a first for TIS, a solution was quickly found based on existing, proven systems. It is a modified version of TISLOG mobile Smart, a browser-based web solution for mobile order management. It was originally designed to facilitate the seamless integration of subcontractors and chartered vehicles into existing logistics and telematics systems via standard smartphones. The version further developed for Maier Spedition is called TISLOG mobile Smart Asset Check.

FMS 5.0

1. Misconception: “Every vehicle that supports FMS 5.0 automatically provides all data”.
Unfortunately, that is not the case. The FMS standard only describes the maximum protocol—that is, what should ideally be transmitted when all features are enabled. However, the data that is actually received depends on the vehicle type, the installed control units, and the optional equipment.

2. Misconception: “FMS 5.0 requires a physical connector in the truck”
It is often assumed that version 5.0 works, as before, exclusively with the traditional wired CAN interface in the cab. However, since the latest version of the standard, the focus has been on Remote FMS (rFMS). This means that telematics data no longer has to be retrieved via a dedicated unit; instead, it can also be transmitted from the vehicle manufacturer’s server to third-party software.

3. Misconception: “FMS 5.0 is only needed for conventional diesel trucks”
Since the FMS standard was originally launched in 2002 by the major European truck manufacturers for traditional internal combustion engines, many consider the system outdated for alternative powertrains. Yet the exact opposite is true. FMS 5.0 explicitly includes expanded data structures to transmit, for example, data from gas- and hydrogen-powered vehicles or specific parameters from electric vehicles.
