Logistics hardware put to the test
Tumble Test aced, ready for the TISWARE Portfolio
Bocholt, August 18, 2021
TIS GmbH offers its customers everything from a single source. Our telematics solutions are characterized by their versatility and durability. To ensure the best possible return on investment, all components in use should meet these criteria.
This applies not only to our TISLOG logistics software but also to the hardware and matching accessories, as we also offer these as part of our complete solutions.
Our accessories are designed under the brand TISPLUS in a separate department directly at TIS in Bocholt.
The industrial hardware for the TISWARE portfolio is sourced from well-known third-party manufacturers, such as Honeywell, Panasonic and Zebra. To ensure here that the selected hardware is powerful, durable and able to meet the requirements of our customers, the equipment undergoes an extensive quality control before it is included in our product range.
This year, we tested three mobile terminals in particular for their suitability as TISWARE and subjected them to a special stress test in the process. The Honeywell CT60 XP, Zebra TC77, and Panasonic FZ-N1 devices were sent to an external and independent service provider for a so-called tumble test.
HONEYWELL CT60 XP
Built on the popular Mobility Edge™ software and hardware platform, the CT60XP integrates easily with high reliability and scalability. The battery lasts a full shift.
ZEBRA TC72/TC77
Industrial-grade, robust all-rounder with modern smartphone Look & Feel, powerful scanner and large display.
PANASONIC FZ-N1
The TOUGHPAD FZ-N1 with Android™ 6.0 is one of the thinnest and lightest 4.7 “category handheld tablets.
The test process
The Tumble Test is an impact test in which the drop and fall resistance of mobile devices is put to the test in a rotating drum.
The devices were each placed individually in the device and subjected to a total of 2000 drops onto metal from a drop height of 1m. Trial scans before, during and after the tumble test were used to verify functionality.
The results
All three devices only suffered minor signs of wear and were still functional after the test.
This means that scans could still be performed after 2000 drops.
Our conclusion
is therefore that the Honeywell CT60 XP, Zebra TC77 and Panasonic FZ-N1 handhelds are all extremely robust and therefore well suited to meet the difficult conditions in the transport and logistics industry.
The tests and the behavior of the devices were recorded via video and photo. Therefore, there is also a video available for each device, in which you can watch the test procedure for yourself and convince yourself of the results.
