Telematics in Practice

Ansorge renews telematics solution from TIS

Ansorge erneuert Telematik-Lösung von TIS

Bocholt, May 11, 2016

Spedition Ansorge is renewing their telematics solution for long distance service, existing since 2009, and relies on the previous supplier TIS, which won in the selection stage against three competitors. In the course of the project approximately 200 vehicle units and the control software PSV3 will be replaced by TISLOG logistics software with significantly enhanced features.

“In addition to pure data transmission a telematics system should be designed to guide the driver through its work processes. TIS was able to adapt best to our individual processes in intermodal transport of swap bodies," explains Christian Winkler, authorized signatory and commercial director of Spedition Ansorge. The special requirements at Ansorge include, for example, stops of the interchangeable container at train stations, and the need to register container numbers and and display them to the drivers.

Instead of mobile board computers from Psion Teklogix TIS telematics boxes of the type telematicbox Truck Premium will be uses at Ansorge in the future, in conjunction with robust "Tab Active" Tablets from Samsung equipped with SIM cards from TIS. "The handling of the device is considerably simplified and accelerated by the touch screen solution," says Winkler.

The hardware will be permanently installed in the tractor, and TIS has developed special brackets for tablets whose integrated charging technology provides increased battery life. "The significant enhancement of the telematics system lies in a completely new architecture. The intelligence of the solution no longer sits in the terminal, but in the telematicbox Truck", Winkler concludes. In the past due to defective devices and gaps in the mobile network data loss had occurred from time to time. In the new solution, the data is stored in the telematicbox Truck and still available at a later time. The introduction of the new telematics solution is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2016.
