Truck-trailer detection in the TISLOG logistics software
Clear overview, more information
Many advantages for fleet management through truck-trailer detection in the TISLOG logistics software
Bocholt, January 26, 2021
Today, numerous large and small logistics companies rely on digital solutions for automated data acquisition. Scheduling and mobile order management are handled on the go with the help of telematics applications such as TISLOG from TIS GmbH.
So far, a little less known, but no less useful, are the possible applications of these technologies in the field of fleet management.
Therefore, today we dedicate an article to this special area of application and introduce the intelligent truck-trailer detection in our TISLOG logistics software.
What are the advantages of the truck-trailer detection?
A vehicle combination consists of several units that are coupled together. This can be, for example, a tractor with a trailer or a motor vehicle with a trailer. With the help of the truck-trailer detection it is possible to clearly determine the position of these coupled units as a single unit at any time. For this, the position information of both units is linked in a clear assignment.
Technologies for truck or trailer positioning are not only used in logistics. However, transport companies, for example, can particularly benefit from this option.
Intervene quickly in the event of mix-ups
A common scenario are mix-ups when picking up trailers, especially in larger fleets. With the help of truck-trailer detection, this can be quickly recognized and rectified.
The solution from TIS can be tailored very precisely to your individual needs. In the event of a mix-up, for example, automatic notifications are triggered and your dispatchers can intervene quickly before the wrong combination has covered hundreds of kilometers and thus lost valuable time.
Even in more special situations, such as swap bodies being exchanged in relay trucking or in the event of a road breakdown, it is always possible to trace which truck is connected to which trailer and on the move. Your dispatch department always knows whether the correct units are linked and where the truck-trailer combination is currently located.
More overview in the headquarters
The registered truck-trailer combinations are clearly displayed with a corresponding symbol directly on the map in our web portal TISLOG office Infodesk. Since not every unit (truck and trailer) is shown individually, the display on the map appears less crammed, even if a large number of trucks and trailers have to be monitored.
Receive information retrospectively
All data are retained in the system and can be viewed even after delivery has been completed. Therefore, if necessary, TISLOG office can also be used to subsequently track which tractor was where with which trailer in a certain period of time.
This is how the TIS truck-trailer detection works
The truck-trailer detection in the TISLOG logistics software is based on the acquisition and comparison of GPS data.
Each unit involved must be equipped with a location transmitter. Trucks need a so-called telematicbox Truck and trailers a telematicbox Trailer.
Our service now repeatedly compares the GPS data received from the tractor with the GPS data from the trailer. If the position data are close enough together, both units are interpreted as one unit, a combination, and displayed accordingly in TISLOG office.
The truck-trailer detection can be automated to a large extent, but can also be controlled manually.
In TISLOG, for example, your dispatchers also have the option of editing a truck-trailer combination and manually coupling or separating the units.
For the driver, our software can be configured with mandatory entries. For example, entering the tractor and trailer in use can be set as mandatory during the departure control in the driver app before the driver can start his tour.
The locating of vehicles or means of transport also opens up numerous options beyond truck-trailer detection, such as geofencing and improved theft and manipulation protection. This is why many fleets are already equipped with location technology today. The next step towards the use of truck-trailer detection is therefore not very big for some companies.
Thus, it is also easy for fleets that already use our telematic boxes for trucks and trailers to start using truck-trailer detection in our Infodesk web portal for the headquarters.
But even fleets that do not yet use location technology at all can easily switch to the truck-trailer detection in TISLOG after a hardware upgrade.
