Based on several European regulations and guidelines, digital tachographs must be installed in all vehicles for the carriage of goods with a maximum permissible mass exceeding 3.5 tons and in all vehicles which are constructed or permanently adapted for carrying more than eight persons. This regulation applies to all such vehicles, which are put into service for the first time after May 2006.
These digital control devices record, store, display, export, and print driver activity data. Among other data, the electronic tachograph stores the manufacturer control device data, the vehicle identification number, the vehicle registration number, as well as driver identity data and driver activity data. In addition, the device collects speed, mileage, scheduled maintenance/service, and control activity data.
The implementation of the Tachograph is associated with the mandates relating to download and data storage requirements. The mandates require that the Tachograph data must be downloaded and archived in routine intervals. In addition, a driver card is a mandatory prerequisite for operating a vehicle with a digital Tachograph. Each driver of a truck equipped with a digital Tachograph, must produce the required driver card. The required driver card data must also be downloaded and archived in regular intervals. This new directive has increased company workloads and associated expenditures - TIS offers sophisticated solutions, which specifically address the increased workload and costs.
The purpose of the EU-wide implementation of digital Tachograph is to improve the monitoring and control of driving times and rest periods. The objective is to contribute to increased road safety by means of complying with the relevant laws through the implementation of such surveillance and monitoring systems.
